Após o fim de mais uma temporada televisiva, nada mais justo que premiar as produções e os artistas que mais se destacaram no último ano.
Antes de dar prosseguimento aos nomes, é necessário ressaltar que foram seguidas as mesmas regras do Emmy Awards. Inclusive, no que tange a alguns artistas, eles concorreram aqui nas mesmas categorias as quais foram inscritas no Emmy. Isso tem o intuito de padronizar a premiação e torná-la mais precisa.
Considerou-se um período de elegibilidade compreendido entre 01/06/2015 e 31/05/2016. Assim, qualquer série que teve algum episódio de sua temporada exibido neste período está concorrendo. A título de exemplo, tem-se a terceira temporada de Hannibal, a terceira temporada de Orange is the New Black e a sexta temporada de Game of Thrones.
Para os atores convidados, poderia ser indicado qualquer nome que não tenha aparecido em mais da metade dos episódios da temporada.
Com relação ao ano anterior, no qual houve a inclusão da categoria “Série Adaptada” (com relação a séries que não tiveram sua origem na televisão e sim em outros meios, como no cinema e em livros), há agora a categoria “Série Finalizada” para premiar as produções que se encerraram – bruscamente ou não – no período de elegibilidade.
Nesse ano, houve quórum para as categorias de Minissérie e/ou Telefilme! Para reality shows, produções brasileiras conseguiram carimbar seus nomes dentre os indicados. Os votantes da premiação são os colaboradores do SM.
